'In honor of Wayland's sesquicentennial this year, a mural was painted on the north side of the Wayland Hotel bar and grill, located on the northwest corner of Main and Superior streets. Miller said the 15-by-40-foot mural will be a welcoming sight for all to see while visiting the city."This public art installation accomplishes many of the DDA's objectives for downtown," Miller said. "It will have traffic-calming effects, engage the community, increase pedestrian traffic, and generally strengthen downtown's sense of place - to highlight a few."
The mural was created by Tess Marhofer, a Wayland artist and frequent winner of past Wayland Art Hop competitions. Marhofer formatted the mural as a paint-by-number to guide volunteers through the painting process. The mural was painted by about 30 volunteers July 14 and 15.'
