Coronavirus Transmission

Coronavirus is spread mainly through respiratory droplets produced when an infected person coughs or sneezes, projecting them into the air and on nearby surfaces. These droplets can land in the mouths or noses of people who are nearby or possibly be inhaled into the lungs.

It is also possible that a person can get COVID-19 by touching an infected surface and then touching their own mouth, nose, or possibly their eyes.

Once the virus enters the airway, it attaches itself to cells located in the throat and lungs and begins to replicate. In an attempt to destroy the virus, the body's immune system reacts with an inflammatory response causing fluid to accumulate in the lungs, decreasing the body's oxygen levels, which may result in organ failure or even death.
